What will we cover?
The trip starts from Mumbai where we see the majestic British Fort area among other sights and spend a night before flying out to Kerala’s capital (2 hrs); Thiruvanathapuram (old name Trivandrum). Drive to its glorious beaches and to the estuary in Poovar; a natural meeting point of sea and backwaters, with unbelievable golden sand! Also to Varkala beach, where European food makes a memorable lunch. After 2 nights at Trivandrum, we head north up the coast to Allepy, the only natural-water backwaters in the world, where houseboats provide an exotic night over calm waters. To change the scene dramatically, we go up the eastern hills to the Periyar Tiger Reserve (4 hrs) and watch wildlife all around from a boat in the lake. Next day we discover antiques in Jew town, Kochi (4 hrs), which, being the apex of the spice route, abounds with memoirs of east and west. Fly back to Mumbai for a memorable day around India’s commercial capital.
